Compared to most people, I like cleaning. Cleaning has a weird calming sensation to me, especially if I have music. Knowing that I will come home to a clean house makes me feel like I’m organized. Your surroundings can dramatically affect your moods so I’ve learned in order for me to be happy I have to have the window open and a tidy environment. Having the window or screen door open helps too but it’s currently 30 degrees Fahrenheit, so maybe it’s not time for that yet. Spring cleaning is around the corner and I thought I would share my successes to help better your spring cleaning!
1. Have Some Good Tunes
I know this isn’t about cleaning but you have got to trust me on this one. Who cleans their house with no music? When a good song comes on, the feather duster is a microphone and my mop helps me moonwalk. Cleaning already isn’t that fun, so why not make it a bit more exciting. One of my favorite cleaning playlists on Spotify is called Cleaning Kit! This playlist has a healthy mix of Frank Sinatra, Fleetwood Mac, and Finneas (my 3 favorite f’s). There is a wide variety of artists within this playlist so just hit play and clean with some spunk! My current favorite is “Let’s Fall in Love for Tonight” by Finneas. It’s a great sweeping kitchen song.
2. Take it One Room at a Time
While cleaning, I have the tendency to go back and forth between rooms. By doing this, it makes me feel anxious that I have so much to do and then begin to feel like giving up. DON’T GIVE UP. Just take it one room at a time. I always make a game plan on what I am doing. For me, I always start with the messiest room, usually my bedroom. I have a tendency to just throw my clothes in my closet/on the ground, but I have reason! They are that weird in-between where they aren’t clean enough to be put back in my dresser, and they aren’t dirty enough to go in the hamper, we all have flaws! When I start with the messiest room, I slowly work my way down, so that everything else seems easy! If there is something that should be in a different room, you bring it into that room and you immediately go back to what you were doing or you can get distracted.
3. Clean Smarter, Not Harder
I have a tendency to sweep first because I hate stepping on crumbs and other debris. It doesn’t seem like an issue but then I wipe down my counters and I have crumbs all over the floor again. Before you do something, especially something that involves cleaning the floors, ask yourself this question: Is there anything I should do before cleaning the floors? Dusting, wiping counters and other tasks can cause the floor to get dirty, so a general rule of thumb in my house is you clean the floor last. I also started wearing some light slippers so I can’t feel any dust or debris on my feet. These are my current cleaning slippers! They are soft and comfy and under $15 dollars! Check them out on Amazon here!
4. Maintain the Cleanliness the Best You Can
The one thing you can do to make your spring cleaning last longer is just to keep up with it. I know after a long 8 hour day we just want to come home and sit on the couch but if you deep clean 1 room a day ( it may take you an hour tops) your house will stay spotless! My mom taught me this trick and it works like a charm! If you do light cleaning (putting stuff back where it belongs, making your bed, putting clothes away) you will notice that it starts to become a habit! If you are like me and have 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen, you can have 2 days off from cleaning! Your surroundings greatly impact your mood so if you have a clean house, made bed, and the sun shining in, you may notice an increase in happiness!
5. Don’t Be Afraid
Cleaning can be scary, especially if you haven’t done it in a while but with a little determination, anyone can do it! Sometimes you don’t know where to start and that is okay! If you need help I always recommend using Pinterest. There are so many different blogs that show you how you can keep your home in tip-top shape! You can also utilize printables! Many of them are free, all you have to do is sign up for their emails! I read a lot of blogs and I have so many archived printables! I am currently in the process of creating my own so if there are any you think would be helpful, I will most certainly make you one! Just remember it’s just dirt and things. It can all be cleared!
As I write this conclusion I am looking around my own house and seeing what I can do to make my house sparkle and shine! Since many of you are already starting your spring cleaning, I am looking into some new cleaning products to review and let you know what works best! If you have any suggestions, I am open! I am thinking that I will make that test into a video and will share it on the blog! Do you have any spring cleaning tips or tricks? What is your cleaning routine? Let me know in the comments below or reach out to me on Instagram at @sunshineandseasoning! I am open to chatting with everyone and I am usually on there when I am not writing! Thank you so much everyone for reading this and make sure to hit that thumbs up and to share it to that friend who needs some cleaning advice!
Have a great day and remember: good seasoning always leads to sunshine!
