Like many people, I like to shop locally and keep my money in the local economy. Small businesses are the backbone of the economy and are a force to be reckoned with. With a growing market, small businesses enter a dog-eat-dog world, and can’t always take it or leave it like other large corporations. They show up every day, even on the days they don’t feel like it, and always aim to provide quality products and services. Whether it’s a local grocer or a computer repair shop, supporting all aspects of local businesses is important. Here are a few points on the importance of supporting local businesses.

They Care More About You than Your Money

Like most businesses, they open up everyday to make a profit. Compared to large national conglomerates (Walmart, Kroger, etc), they put more effort into providing excellent service to you, in hopes you will return. Not only will the quality of product be exceptional, they may recommend you to other local markets, where you can link up with other local business owners or even farmers, to get the freshest products! It pays to know people!

Products are Usually Fresh

One of my favorite parts of visiting a local grocer is the stock of fresh fruits, vegetables, grains and even meat that they offer! Most of the products are either delivered that day from a local farmer, or they are grown in their own gardens! When they are grown locally, you can almost guarantee that there is care put into each crop! If you have never had a garden fresh tomato, pick one up at your local grocer and try it out, you will never go back! 

Keeping Money Local and Creating New Jobs

When you buy products from local businesses, you are also keeping your money local and voting with your dollar! Keeping money locally helps business associations decide where and how to spend their money. By keeping money local, you are also creating more jobs for the community! 

Promotes Community Well-Being

By supporting your local businesses, those businesses contribute to local causes, creating local relationships and also building thriving and vibrant downtown centers!
